Artist Statement Below
My artwork says something, it tells stories, some simple and others complex. I am shouting to the world. My first few artworks were in water colour, but I quickly moved to oil painting, where I found a medium, I love. The evolution of my art has gone from just oil paint on canvas to oil paint and mixed media on canvas. The oil paint plays the principle roll in the story telling but other items such as wood, fabric, plastic, glass paint, glitter, and metallic foil, to name but a few, are used to create depth, sparkle, and texture. The artwork reaches out into the room and plays with the light. It is not just a story that can be observed with the eye but also explored with the fingers. My work is often described and contemporary and naïve in style. As I was born with OCD, anxiety, depression and dyslexia, my view of the world is through the lens of my mental health issues. My artist motto is: “Born on dreams, driven by insanity” I create what I feel about what I see, it is a spiritual journey.
Bio - CV
David grew up in Rowley Regis, in the West Midlands, caught in the shadow of Birmingham, England. The second largest city in the UK. He comes from a working class back-ground. David is gay and came out to his family at the age of 16 in 1984. At first his family rejected his sexuality. AIDS was hitting the headlines as, “the gay plague,” and they really did not understand why he had, “chosen,” to be gay. Eventually however, they realized it was not a choice and they did accept him. This conflict is documented in some of David’s artworks along with his interest in history and politics.
David suffers with hereditary mental health problems, but he has never let it hold him back. He has studied Law via the Certified Institute of Legal Executives; he has a Bachelors Degree in History and in total 23 academic and skills-based qualification.
David has written several novels and turned to oil painting, then moved on to mixed media and experimental art after the end of a long-term relationship in 2013. He began creating in the evening to fill the void left by his absent partner. Now he cannot image life without a paint brush. He has exhibited widely across the UK and has a strong online presence. He has sold a number of originals and a lot of prints, which have been sold worldwide.
Notable exhibitions have been at, The Royal West of England Academy - Bristol, Chelsea Town Hall - London, Royal Birmingham Society of Artists - Birmingham.

The creative process: Firstly I have to have the image in my head. I do not create from photos or by observing. I do however, consult images for things like size and accuracy. I create the artwork myself. There is no one else who-or-what-so ever involved. Some artworks takes longer then others to create. I have spent as much as two years on one piece. One of the biggest consumers of time, is simply waiting for the work to dry before I can carry on with it. Therefore I am able to work on several pieces at once. I do a bit on one, put it to side to dry and then do a bit on another, and so one.
When buying my work:
I create a physical one-off work of art on, using oil paint and other media. If you should buy any of my art you will receive it by courier to your door. You will own the original and the only one of its kind.
It will come with a certificate of authenticity.

- When pricing I also have to consider that I am (currently) an unknown artist, I am however working to make that change.
- I have to create the image in my head as none are copies from other sources such as photos. I may however, take dimensions, such as size relationships from other sources.
- My work is handmade by me. There is no one else involved in the process what-so-ever. (Many of the “greats” employ teams of artist and they simply sign the art with their name). I don’t do this. I create myself!
- I spend time on creating, many hours. When working in mixed media such as wood, fabric and metal, I cut the wood and fabric by hand – etc. It is not a quick process.
- When buying something of mine, you are buying my imagination, my time and my craft work.
- I realize photos can be deceiving, so I will always accept the return of my work, and reimburse any money paid and reasonable transport costs. ( I have as yet never had a return).
